HILAAL AND SALAAH TIMES WORKSHOP
Port Elizabeth, 30.01.2020
Al Hidayah Centre Eastern Cape coordinated a fascinating and informative Hilaal Workshop primarily for Ulama and those connected to moon sighting groups. This forms part of our Ulama empowerment program, designed to provide Ulama with necessary skills and upgrade existing knowledge.
Moulana Shabeer Asmal of the Jamiatul Ulama KZN conducted the three part Workshop. He drew on the immense resources and experiences of the Jamiatul Ulama KZN. The Workshop commenced with tea and registration followed by the first session. Moulana Abduraghmaan Nackerdien recited the opening Qiraat. The second session ran from Maghrib to Esha and participants shared ideas and thoughts around supper after Esha.
Participants came from as far afield as Uitenhage and Humansdorp and expressed a desire to learn more about the information presented in the Workshop. Valuable insight was given into how the national moon sighting under UUCSA is conducted monthly and the formal procedure was explained in detail.
The Workshop consisted of three presentations:
1. Importance of the Hilaal
2. Understanding the Perpetual Timetable
3. Hilaal, Procedures and Simulations
These are available for download along with the relevant audio. Bear in mind that the presentation had questions and answers as well as discussions in between. Therefore they can be used as a general guide to the presentations.
